Hong Kong: the Hong Kong Standard Front Page reports that Britain may allow the Hong Kong SAR to decide the future of two laws, the Societies Ordinance and the Public Order Ordinance.

Commenting on his latest round of talks with British Foreign Minister Rifkind, Tung Chee-hwa said that a difference in 'values and beliefs' is preventing Britain and China from narrowing their differences.

The British Foreign Secretary outlined, in a speech in Singapore, British interests in increasing trade with S.E. Asia and fostering greater political and security ties.

The Asia Times leads off with an interesting story about the cultural attitudes and practices separating 'mainlanders' and Hong Kong people.

Guangdong: In nearby Guangdong the forthcoming provincial people's congress hopes to implement measures for 'ruling the province in accordance with the law'.

Party politics: Hu Jiwei, an outspoken critic of Premier Li Peng's handling of the Tiananmen disaster, received notification of the reinstatement of his rights as a party member.

Hong Kong: the British Foreign Office maintains an information site on the handover of Hong Kong.
